Synopsis "Biology of Tooth Movement"
Orthodontically tooth movement can also be brought about by the application of force through orthodontic appliances in a predetermined direction. The mechanical stresses in Periodontium by the applied force induce a cascade of biological events resulting in tooth movement. These mechanical stresses send signals to the cells in the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone to remodel the tissues and allow tooth movement. An attempt is made in this review to provide an update on the recent developments in molecular and genetic influence in response to force application for orthodontic tooth movement.
