Bratt: Recollections and Ramblings on the Growth of a Florida Panhandle Farm Community
Synopsis "Bratt: Recollections and Ramblings on the Growth of a Florida Panhandle Farm Community"
"Recollections and Ramblings on the Growth of a Florida Panhandle Farm Community". With more than 150 pages and over 100 vintage photos, this narrative follows the transition of this region as it changed from a long history of logging into Florida's most western farming communities. The first part of this book recalls the history of the settlement of the area as it evolved around the early logging era. This is followed by the growth of the community of Bratt after 1900 as the forest land, now stripped of trees, changed into farmlands. Shown through photos and stories from local families, the book discusses some of the community's earliest families, their homes, the schools, churches and the historic community cemetery. It follows the development of the community and region when people here saw the introduction of the automobile, airplane, powered farm machinery, telephone, electricity, and paved roads, as well as living in the difficult days of World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II.
