Synopsis "Modern Trends in English Drama"
The purpose of this book is to introduce and describe certain modern trends in English drama with special reference to the most influential drama and dramatists in English literature from different perspectives. The study tackles the most significant trends whether in Eastern or Western culture. The book is divided into ten chapters every chapter tackles certain important trend in English drama. Starting with an Introduction about modern English drama then chapter one is about Kane's Blasted reflecting her view on In-Yer-Face Theatre. Chapter two deals with theme of motherhood in Churchill's Owners, while chapter three discusses the meaning of Theatre of Menace in Pinter 's The Caretaker followed by chapter four which sheds light on Timeless Concept in Osborn's Luther followed by Dysfunctional language and Body Gestures in Waiting for Godot and The Optimism in Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Then T. S. Eliot's 'The Family Reunion as a Greek Tragedy. The Presentation of the Anti-Hero in Synge's The Playboy of the Western World is discussed in chapter eight followed by The Superman Concept in Shaw's Man and Superman and the book ends up with chapter ten.
