Synopsis "The problem of blood transfusion in Bangui (CAR)"
In a cross-sectional study conducted for a period of 12 months in the different hospitals in Bangui (Friendship Hospital, Community Hospital, Pediatric Complex) related to blood transfusion, the purpose of which was to evaluate the time between the prescription and the time of transfusion in each center, we made the following observations- The etiologies of transfusion were much more medical.- Only whole blood is used for transfusion.- Transfusion safety is clearly not assured.- Most often, a blood bag is used regardless of the hemoglobin level.- Blood donation is carried out in the majority of cases by voluntary and unpaid donors.- The transport of labile blood products is provided by the patients' relatives. Hospitals do not have blood banks.- An emergency prescription takes several times as expected due to the distance that separates some hospitals from the National Blood Transfusion Center.
