Synopsis "A contribution to the History of Women in Science in Brazil"
As a master's student on the Postgraduate Programme in the History of Sciences and Techniques and Epistemology/HCTE-UFRJ, while taking part in the subjects "History of Sciences in Brazil" and "History of Scientific Institutions" and looking for new challenges in academic life, we came across the issue of the invisibility of women in the sciences made by historiography and common sense, reproducing the idea that there were no women practising science in previous centuries. One gets the impression that from the 19th to the 20th century, science moved more and more into the laboratory and closed institutions that made it difficult for women to participate, appearing in history as someone's wife, someone's appendage, despite being in the field with their husbands and being invaluable to research, dedicating themselves to the inherent work of scientific research, such as looking after the collections, illustrating and/or translating experiments and texts, doing science alongside their scientist husband, who at the end of the process was awarded prizes, recognition and honour, their names in the shadow of the male renown.
