A Cracked Egg follows the misadventures of Bruce, an educated, sophisticated, well-to-do yet severely malcontent man with a checkered past whose only escape from a loveless marriage is a series of love affairs. After his latest one blows up in his face, he exchanges flirtatious smiles with a young woman he spots on the platform of a commuter train. Although she misconstrues his overtures as an expression of interest in joining her nondenominational Christian Church, he joins under false pretenses only as a ruse to get close to her. This arouses the curiosity of his long time pal, Jimmy, a Private Eye, who decides to stake the place out to ensure Bruce isn't getting involved in anything untoward. When Jimmy becomes suspicious of the church's pastor, he enlists his friend's help in conducting a full investigation. Together they set uncover a series of secrets and scandals which turn the church and their lives upside down.
