Otis Chandler (1927-2006) served as publisher of the Los Angeles Times from 1960 to 1980, the fourth generation of Chandlers to hold that position. His great-grandfather Harrison Gray Otis acquired full ownership of the paper in 1887, his grandfather Harry Chandler amassed one of the largest real estate empires in the country, his mother Dorothy Chandler helped found the Los Angeles Music Center.Otis Chandler brought the Los Angeles Times to national prominence.Then Otis was caught in an investment scandal, went through a divorce, resigned as publisher of the Times, and in 1986 was terminated from the Times Mirror Company.
