With a childhood peppered with sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, rape and suicide attempts, I often get asked how the hell I ended up where I am today. A strong, proud mother with a career and a life. What was different about me that I ended up okay where others haven't? Some of it was fate, some of it luck, some of it was the decisions I made as I went along. I am by no means perfect but my childhood was bad enough to have seriously screwed me up in my teens, to the point where I attempted suicide on several occasions, suffered blackouts, experienced severe aggression and anger issues, and I was veering towards drug and alcohol dependency. I pretty much had no faith in humanity, or in life itself. What changed? By a small miracle, I found a reason to change. I found something to want to do and be better for. So I made changes. These chapters discuss my journey through healing and the path I have paved towards a happy future.
