Synopsis "A Riddle"
A RIDDLE During World War II, Stalin's scientists developed the perfect pathogen. It was easy to spread, would last for weeks on all kinds of surfaces, and killed almost everyone who came in contact with it. Unfortunately, there was no antidote, which meant that it was also lethal to those who spread it. The pathogen remained unused until a powerful Russian criminal gang, known as Dolgoruki (the "long arms"), stole a newly engineered antidote from an American lab. Then the gang, in a life and death struggle with the Kremlin, decided to "demonstrate" the effectiveness of the antidote by unleashing the pathogen in New York City. Aldus Stewart leads the FBI team trying to find the gang's mole before he unleashes death and deadly panic in the heart of Manhattan. A Riddle takes the reader through dozens of twists and turns, from the Balkans to Moscow to the Black Sea, finally leading to an epic confrontation in the secret basements of New York's Museum of Natural History. This is the second Aldus Stewart thriller. The first, Killing Justice, describes the tense political struggle that ensues when the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court suddenly dies. Or was he murdered?
