While photographing magnificent Great Blue Herons nest-building at the Venice Rookery in Florida, we observed an amusing story unfold before our eyes. Construction was going smoothly for an affectionate pair we had named Fred and Matilda, when Fred suddenly found an unusually large and unwieldy stick and brought it to Matilda at the nest. The emotional scenario that ensued certainly seemed to reflect one that might have taken place at a human household where a wife had sent hubby to the store for a few mundane nails and he excitedly returned with a whole new addition for the house! Over twenty full-page, full color images of the gracious creatures tell the simple, cheeky tale.
