Synopsis "A Runt's Tale,: In the Beginning..."

The Memoir of Captain Reginald Rumphrey-Bon Vent, Esq. (AKA; Scram Runt, the Whirling Dervish, the Patch Collector, the Engineer, Dada, and other monikers.) of the fair City of Waterport. Jack-of-all-Trades, Master-of-Many. "While my life has been described as a cascading series of strange events with even stranger consequences, a chain reaction of cause and effect gone amok and awry, an algorithmic barrage of creatively extrapolative, frenetic activity...it certainly has been fun! Join me in the unveiling of it." Welcome to Oerth. It is the 5010th Turn since the Supertemporal Compact between the Sentient Races during the Great Conclave. Oerth exists in a parallel timeline to the one in which you currently reside and is similar in some respects to the Earth that you know, but due to many important and far reaching differences in their respective histories, the technological and cultural level of the era roughly correlates to a span from the late 1400's to the 1700's on Earth and Magick abounds. The book series is aimed at a range of readers from high functioning Elementary Schoolers, through Middle Schoolers, Young Adults, and Adults who like lighthearted and irreverent Science Fiction and Fantasy similar to Robert Lynn Asprin's works. They are written at about the same level as the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. It is in 'sequel' format, so must be read consecutively to make sense. It could loosely be categorized as Science Fantasy, which is a mixed genre within the umbrella of speculative fiction which combines tropes and elements from both Science Fiction and Fantasy, and sometimes also incorporates elements of Horror, but this series also has some relation to other forms of fiction, such as; Historical, Humor, Legend, Mythology, and the Tall Tale. The term, Science Fantasy, was most commonly used in the period 1950-1966. The works of Edgar Rice Burroughs and E. R. Eddison are probably the earliest examples of the Science Fantasy genre. Other authors that published works in this genre include; Robert A. Heinlein, L. Ron Hubbard, L. Sprague de Camp, Poul Anderson, Henry Kuttner, and C. L. Moore. These works were a deliberate attempt to apply the techniques and attitudes of science fiction to traditional fantasy subjects. Enjoy! A realistic view of an alluring realm, drawn completely from the memories of a humble man with a monumental life. - A.E. Like a cross between Robert Lynn Asprin's MythAdventures series and J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, with some Pythonesque humor thrown in...hilarious! - R.P. The appendices remind me of Tolkien's Silmarillion. Lots of useful back information. I noticed some similarities with Piers Anthony's Xanth series, also. - R.R. Like J. R. R. Tolkien, you have created your own alternate and complex fictional world. Good work, good luck, and keep writing. - D.B.
