Synopsis "A soldier's wind"
Recovering in London Jason enjoys the company of prostitutes, theatre and good food, building up his strength for a return to war. Commisioned he is appointed to a frigate where tensions run high, the death of his captain and senior lieutenants leaves him in command, a good prize is captured, and on arrival in Jamaica he is appointed to the command of a schooner, an ideal craft for an ambitious officer, an heir to a subtantial fortune means parents wish to make their daughters available and he becomes embroiled with two sisters, one of whom he later marries. Raids on Spanish territory and captures of privateers increase his wealth, setting up a mistress in Kingston with who he has a number of children, due to long absences his wife and mistress become emoitionally entangled.
