Synopsis "Abilities of health care institutes for managing genetic diseases"
The survey refers to the medical genetic activities performed in the Visakhapatnam district from 7th June 2019 to 6th April 2021. A descriptive cross-sectional survey of a representative sample of institutional health facilities from Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, India was conducted. The district has a total of 597 Sub Centers (SCs), 82 Primary Health Centers (PHCs), 12 Community Health Centers (CHCs), 3 Referral Hospitals (RHs), 2 Area hospitals, 3 District Hospital (DH), 4 Medical Colleges (MCs) (1 public and 3 private) distributed in four divisions, namely, Anakapalli, Paderu, Narsipatnam and Visakhapatnam and these all were selected for the survey by covering all divisions. In the present study, all the manpower and institutional capacity's which are related to genetic disease management in the Visakhapatnam district were taken for sampling. From the side of private health institutions, 80 reputed Corporate Hospitals (CHs) and 62 popular Diagnostic Laboratories (DLs) which are located at the division headquarters were selected by covering all divisions.
