A man born in Bavaria, Germany, has big dreams - one is to be a seafaring man plowing all the waters of the world and the goal is to become a United States of America citizen. He is successful obtaining his various licensed. His experience and the return to Bavaria, becoming more and more difficult. At one of the returns home, through a mutual friend Richard meets Madeleine Bauer from Munich. The family is more than excited and hopes for an immediate engagement. Richard Schwar has long maintained the status of Master of a ship. He is captain of the oil tanker SS William F. Humphrey. In June 1942, the Humphrey is spotted by the German Navy Auxiliary ship Michel. Not until evening, did the German begin meaningful confrontation. The Michel is successful sinking the Humphrey. The 42-man crew of the Humphrey had to find whatever would made them not become prisoners of the Germans. Eleven of the crew, the ship's captain, the second in command and various ones with important roles were hoping to escape the reach of the German Michel. The eleven, indeed did just that. They were moving along quite well when a German. A Norwegian freighter rescued them and brought them to Sierra Leone, West Africa. After some time, the men were transferred to the United States.William Wallace brought with him a great story of survival. He was able to give great detail to the attack by the German ship and what happened to each crew member.Upon the death of the captain, Richard Schwarz, the ashes from the cremation of the body as he asked for were ceremoniously strewn over the waters of the Atlantic outside the harbor of New York at Sandy Point.You will find the stories within the pages of this book, the kind of stories only to say that when a person has certain dream and is willing to act upon such dream, i.e. becoming a seafaring master and gain American citizenship. Richard and Madeline will have two children, a boy and a daughter.
