Alfred Döblin hat sich mit einigen seiner Werke in seiner Zeit einen Namen gemacht, doch keines ist heute mehr so bekannt wie "Berlin Alexanderplatz". Dieser Roman nimmt eine Sonderstellung ein, weil Döblin mit ihm etwas Neues ausprobiert hat. Er wollte die Literatur revolutionieren, sich den Umständen der Jahrzehnte anpassen und hat damit seinen ganz eigenen Stil entwickelt. Er selbst nennt ihn einen "Kinostil", doch bekannt ist er heute auch als "filmische Schreibweise". Er war der erste deutsche Schriftsteller, der versucht hat, filmische Elemente in die Literatur zu übernehmen - und hat sich damit einen Namen gemacht.
