These elements blend into the lives of two American lovers, who are caught in a web of unfortunate circumstances. Five years before the story starts, Jennifer went through a painful divorce--her husband ran away with another woman. And as the art director of a large and prestigious firm, Allied Advertising, Jennifer is unhappy with her career. She studied art in Paris and never gave up a life-long dream to return to France and pursue a career in fine art. She's also an amateur antique collector. That's how she and Edward meet. He's the major stockholder of a large and prestigious antique dealership, Thornton & Ivy, on Robertson in Beverly Hills with branch offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo. They're a perfect match for each other. Only trouble is, they're both weighted down with baggage from their previous marriages. Little chance for a happy ending but they still go for it.
