this book covers aphids on ornamental shrubs, cultivated amenity plants and wild plants (including weeds). it is the complementary volume to aphids on the worlds trees (cabi june 1994) and aphids on the worlds crops, second edition (wiley 2000). together, these books offer a comprehensive account of the worlds aphid fauna in relation to their host plants. such a database is not yet available for any group of plant-feeding insects.   many cultivated amenity plants, particularly shrubs, climbers and herbaceous plants, suffer attacks by aphids but there is currently no publication available that will allow entomologists to identify the aphids they find on these and many other wildly cultivated plant genera and species.   the title will be published as a two-volume set:   book 1 the plants and their aphids introduction rationale behind the book and explanations for the use of the book.   host plant lists and aphid identification keys alphabetical list of host plants and identification keys to the aphids on each plant species.     book 2 the aphids systematic treatment of aphids encyclopaedic systematic account of the aphids in alphabetical order, including information about their appearance in life, biology, host relations and virus transmission.   references extensive bibliography   photographic guide ~ 40 plates the photographic guide provides pictures of a selection of species as they appear in whole-mount preparations on microscope slides. the more important purpose is to function on its own as a pictorial guide to the range of morphology within and between subfamilies and genera, with the photos arranged in a way that allows comparison between related species and genera.   index to species names of aphids
