Synopsis "Attitudes of High Schools Students towards the Teaching Profession"
This book provides an insight on attitudes of high schools students towards the teaching profession. It is based on the Master's thesis conducted with Grade 11 and 12 students. Among other issues which have bearing on the negative attitudes towards the teaching profession is low salary or remuneration in the teaching profession, work overload and other added responsibilities, violence and learners' lack of discipline at schools, and most notably the fact that teachers are not encouraging students to follow the teaching profession. The teaching profession is no longer seen as a noble as it is stressful and a low status job. The findings have serious implications on all the educational stakeholders specifically the South African government and the governments of the world as they continue to face acute teacher shortages. This book provides recommendation which can be utilised for the benefit of the teaching profession.
