Synopsis "Back To School"
Dr. Jonah Fine, a psychologist with community mental health in San Francisco, returns to Westside High School, where he was a student twenty years ago. Shortly after he arrives, Jonah meets Nadia Kirov, an attractive Ukrainian exchange student who discloses that she is being sexually harassed by one of her teachers and asks for his help. Jonah reports her allegations to the school administration, but before the investigation begins, Nadia suddenly disappears. Jonah asks Robbie Scott, the police officer assigned to the campus, to help him find her. Nadia's host family, the agency that placed her, and the police all suggest she has simply runaway and will turn up in a few days. Jonah isn't convinced and decides to investigate. He soon discovers that Nadia has a secret life, one that leads him into the shadow world of the Russian Mafia. Jonah is warned to "forget Nadia", but refuses to be intimidated and finds that he must risk everything to learn the truth. Back to School is a fast-paced mystery novel set in a contemporary urban high school. It is the first book in a new series that features Dr. Jonah Fine.
