Ziel der Wurzelkanalbehandlung ist es, vitales oder nekrotisches Pulpagewebe aufzulösen, endodontische Biofilme zu zerstören, Endotoxine zu neutralisieren und die Schmierschicht zu entfernen. Die Anwendung des Biofilmkonzepts auf die endodontische Mikrobiologie trägt dazu bei, das pathogene Potenzial der Wurzelkanalmikrobiota zu verstehen und neue Ansätze für die Wurzelkanaldesinfektion zu entwickeln.
