Synopsis "Breathers"
Their world isn't a secret anymore. Paranormal races are no longer just stories-they have been forced out of hiding, forced to fit into a society full of prejudice and ignorance. When a series of murders plagues Manhattan, humans take action by banning and evicting innocent paranormals, but it does nothing to keep the threat at bay. There's something else brewing in New York City, an unknown evil bent on destroying humanity. Poppy Earl has been around a long time. She has a scarred heart, a blood-stained past, and no particular reason to get involved in the mayhem. Until Owen, a descendant of her first love, asks for her help. Owen stumbles across a piece of information Poppy can't ignore: the Keaton Cadavers, a centuries-old vampire society, is behind all the killings. Headed by the charismatic Jeremiah Keaton, the Cadavers are taking lives a few at a time with one goal in mind: to end the reign of humanity and begin a new age. As a former member of the Cadavers, and a former friend of Keaton himself, Poppy knows more about this menace than anyone. She and Owen dive headfirst into the mess, gathering forces, making guesses, looking for ways to stop the danger before it gains momentum. It's new friends against old, present against past, and reason against love. Poppy must overcome fears, take chances, and break some of her own rules. Through it all, she is reminded that there's a lot more to being human than the need to breathe.
