Die von Eduard Berend im Auftrag der Preu ischen Akademie der Wissenschaften Mitte der 1920er Jahre begonnene historisch-kritische Ausgabe der Werke und Briefe Jean Pauls umfa t vier Abteilungen. Die I. Abteilung (Zu Lebzeiten des Dichters erschienene Werke) und die II. Abteilung (Nachlass) erscheinen beim Verlag Hermann Böhlaus Nachfolger. Die II. Abteilung (Briefe von Jean Paul) erschien in den Jahren 1952 bis 1964 im Akademie-Verlag und wird jetzt mit der IV. Abteilung (Briefe an Jean Paul) seit 2003 im Akademie Verlag fortgesetzt.
