Bill Gant and Alan Pulis, retired Alaska State Troopers, are halibut fishing when they discover a body floating in the rip at the center of Alaska's Cook Inlet. They discover the victim, wearing a life preserver, had been shot in the back. Captain Rollin Caswell of the Alaska State Troopers recruit the retired men to investigate the case under contract with the State Troopers. The victim is a local banker and suspect the killing is a mob hit. A local waitress that had been dating the banker is on the mobs hit list. The investigation leads from Alaska to New Jersey organized crime boss, requiring them to rely on the FBI and US Marshals to assist in the investigation. From local intrigue to international banking, this story winds across the Arctic to the East Coast and beyond, leaving death and fear in its wake.
