Synopsis "chemical weapons convention chemicals analysis: sample collection, preparation and analytical methods"

the book will describe the procedures for collection of samples, sample preparation, and analysis of cwc-related chemicals just above the laboratory practice. the book deals mostly with analytical procedures that can be followed only in well-equipped off-site laboratories (designated laboratories). instrumentation in these laboratories are state of the art and have best performance. another main topic will be the on-site analytical procedures that the opcw inspectors use in sample collection and preliminary analysis of the samples in field conditions. the inspectors use portable on-site instrumentation. related additional topics will be, e.g. review to round-robin and proficiency tests, the opcw inspection team activities, and the central opcw analytical database (coad). the military approach is included as far as it is of general interest and in line with the cwc and opcw purposes. the techniques used by military are specific and fast, and are used to obtain information for protection of troops. interesting applications exist, however, it is questionable how openly these may be described. the book will be based on articles published in the section on chemical weapons chemicals analysis in encyclopedia of analytical chemistry (john wiley & sons, chichester, 2000). twelve articles will be taken from eac and rewritten and updated, and eight new articles will be commissioned.
