The region was experiencing a hundred year drought, and for the past three months many local people have mysteriously gone missing and many large animals have been found mutilated. When Carl's son stumbles on a most gruesome site in the desert near his ranch, he tries to investigate, but the military intervenes and warns him to stay away.
