Synopsis "Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti'nin Afrika Politikası (in Turco)"

The fact that China is too great to be disregarded in terms of global balance of power leads those concerned to keep an eye on the country's activities in the international field. China's activities in Africa draw a special attention in this respect, as it is omnipresent in the entire continent of Africa, especially in the economical field. Despite such an overarching and active presence, China-Africa relations shoud not be understood as the relationship between China and all of the African countries on an individual basis. It is more reasonable to ideate these relations as China's Africa policy and the general approach of African countries towards China. The present book in Turkish, which is a revised edition of my doctoral dissertation, treats China-Africa relations from this point of view. The agency of African countries is demonstrated as much as possible with pertinent examples. Instead of carrying out a limited analysis over a unique sample, an inclusive framework is drawn on the essence of China-Africa relations. The book aims at revealing the basic dynamics of China-Africa relations within the mentioned frame. As there can be a great deal of dynamics to steer those relations, the book is grounded on two basic dynamics of international relations, namely power and identity, for the sake of analytical clarity. Adopting a Constructivist approach, the book incorporates an analysis of the structural characteristics of China and African states as well as a foreign policy analysis of those states in a historical perspective. Accordingly, each factor affecting China-Africa relations are analysed and to what extent they have an effect on the relations is figured out. Finally, the book discusses whether there is a distinctive way of relationship, with reference to a neo-tributary framework, between China and African states.
