Synopsis "Clinical Effects and Management of COVID-19"
This book discusses organ damage due to COVID-19. Inflammation, endotheliitis, and coagulopathy lead to organ damage. Lungs, heart, kidneys, brain, eyes, gastrointestinal tract, skin, and mental status are adversely affected. The effect on the respiratory system is explored in detail. Utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect medical personnel and others is elaborated. The adverse effects of shortage of PPE are scrutinized. Limitations of airway barrier enclosures for reducing transmission between patients and medical personnel are considered. The therapeutics for COVID-19 approved in USA by the National Institutes of Health and/ or the Federal Drug Administration are reviewed. Remdesivir and some monoclonal antibody cocktails are recommended for early stage disease. Dexamethasone is recommended for severe disease.
