Synopsis "Control of Asbestos Exposure During Brake Drum Service"
Earlier studies of airborne asbestos exposures to mechanics during brake maintenance operations showed overexposure to asbestos fibers during brake servicing, especially brake assembly cleaning. Because a large number of mechanics were exposed to asbestos, a known carcinogen, detailed field surveys were conducted. The report presents recommendations for engineering controls and work practices to reduce exposure to asbestos during brake maintenance operations.
