Synopsis "Culture Club Cookbook 1900: Jefferson, Iowa"
The Culture Club is one of the oldest women's clubs in Greene County, Iowa. It began in 1891 as The Delvers, a study group that explored ideas, current events, and topics beyond the usual concerns of daily life in the pioneer days of the county. In 1897, the group became The Culture Club and continued its mission of being a place where women could discuss ideas freely. The Culture Club still meets today, over 120 years later. From the Jefferson Bee May, 1897 "THE BEE congratulates the Culture Club on its new and happily chosen name, as well as upon the entire success which marked the christening of the new regime in nomenclature. May the Culture Club live long and prosper." Raspberry Ridge Publishing is pleased to reprint this cookbook which the members of the Culture Club published in 1900 to benefit the public library. The cookbook includes vintage recipes using simple ingredients available at the turn of the 20th century in small town Iowa. The cookbook also includes many pages of vintage advertisements. All profits from the sale of this cookbook will be divided among the public libraries in Greene County on a yearly basis.
