Synopsis "Dark Clouds and other stories: An Anthology of the Henreaders Prize for Fiction 2017"
Dark Clouds and other stories is a collection of the seven best entries submitted to the 2017 edition of The Henreaders Prize for Fiction. The anthology has been read and reviewed by many and everyone is wowed by the quality of the stories in it. REVIEWS Buckle up for an emotional flight of short story fancy. Airport panic and plane crashes link the six stories in this anthology, where brushes with death are juxtaposed with both sweet and bitter slices of life. The simplicity of the storylines is a foil to the intricate emotions that emerge from the characters. Their recollection of ordinary, everyday events, reveals a plethora of emotion within the characters; from exquisite joy to agonizing terror; impactful in their raw honesty. Stylistically the stories delight with a scattering of magic, snippets of humour, delicious twists, and a tinge of African colour. Add to this many individuals, almost incidental moments the reader might relate to; for me Rollercoaster's casual reference to The Garden of Words anime, a Madonna-style pointed brassiere making an appearance in Dark Memoire, and the nervous passing of wind in Fall of a Giant. Surprisingly, considering the stark theme and the somber title, the anthology is a ray of light, illuminating the beauty and fragility of the countless moments that comprise our journey through life. I found myself re-reading the book, eager to undertake the trip again. -Jolene Raison, Journalist. The anthology 'Dark Cloud and other stories' is altogether quite amusing, with the works of Stella, Kadiri Alex, Miracle, and most especially Pressilla pervading my creative taste buds on the very essence of life itself and the sudden aftermath of unplanned realities such as the death in humanity's long run on Earth. This is sincerely a must read for those who aren't enlightened by the diverse possibilities of such unwarranted occurrences caused by human inefficiency. -Tomi Adegbite, Writer.
