Synopsis "Dear Mom, Pop and Fred: Letters from Windsor"

Dear Joe, I have before me all the letters you wrote home from your boarding school days at Loomis, all of them -or at least those that I have found. Now I address this one to you. I would have wanted it to be delivered directly to your room, up, up there in "Peanut Heaven" -as you called it- on your first day of school, perhaps you will find it neatly placed on top of the pillow on the bed you claimed as yours, by the window (on Founder's Hall, was it? By the looks of the layout you sent of the room with five beds that's my best guess). Its September 1943, you have traveled with your mother from Caracas via Miami, flying over the Caribbean on the Pan American Clipper -island hopping as I once heard you say- and then a day long train ride to New York City. I believe this was your first time in Continental U.S.A. and from what I read you had a blast in Miami Beach as well as in Manhattan. The small town of Windsor is just a train stop away from Hartford and a short walk away is the Loomis Institute, snug between the last meander of the Farmington river before it disembogues in the Connecticut. At 13 years of age you must feel that you are in the middle of nowhere, or at least as far away as you can imagine possible from your home, family and friends in Caracas. You already miss your younger brother Federico -for you Freddy, the same way your birth name is José but everyone knows you as Joe. Your father is also in Caracas, taking care of business at his automobile dealership, Compañía Nacional de Automóviles in Puente de Hierro, as is your Venezuelan Boy Scout "Troop Washington" that is very dear to you because "there is no other troop in the world like it."
