How could she have known that Pastors, Ministers, Church Elders and others representing Christ’s cause could be as manipulative and lust driven as any serial criminal in society? How could she ever have understood that given the right set of circumstances a person’s will could be destroyed and re-molded to the point they’d become de-facto slaves to their new master, cult leader, guru or spouse? How could Hephzibah have anticipated that being in God’s grace would mean abandoning her most fundamental beliefs as well as everything that made her who she was or would ever become? Knowledge is power and what one doesn’t know can be the difference between life and death.
