In diesem Buch wird eine neue Theorie der Grammatikalisierung von Artikeln und der Struktur von Nominalphasen entwickelt. Es wird gezeigt, da syntaktische Struktur (syntaktische Kategorien, Konstituentenstruktur) ebenso ein Produkt von Grammatikalisierungsprozessen ist wie ein grammatisches Element (z.B. ein Artikel), wobei nicht nur syntaktische, sondern auch semantische und pragmatische Aspekte der Entstehung von Artikelsyntagmen diskutiert werden. Neben dem Definitartikel wird eine groe Anzahl weiterer Artikelphnomene behandelt (z.B. der Gelenkartikel), eine neue Typologie fr Artikel vorgeschlagen und dafr argumentiert, da nicht der anaphorische Gebrauch, sondern der anamnestische Gebrauch von Demonstrativa den Ausgangspunkt der Entwicklung von Artikeln bildet.
