Synopsis "Demystifying the concepts of Hinge Axis & Facebow in Prosthodontics"

Management and establishment of proper maxillomandibular relationships are of vital importance in restorative dentistry. The use of the face-bow is imperative if we want to accurately transfer and subsequently reproduce, or simulate the mandibular movement on an articulator and thus constructing harmonious restorations. The horizontal hinge axis is an imaginary line connecting the two centers of rotation in each mandibular condyles. To simulate movement and an accurate arc of closure, the maxillary cast must be transferred in the proper relationship from the patient to the articulator with reference to these rotational centers. This axis, therefore, comes important and useful to us when transferring casts of the patient to the articulator in proper relationship. It is this horizontal axis to which we relate the face-bow transfer which is the first step in establishing proper maxillomandibular relationship. This book helps in explaining all the concepts and theories related to hinge axis and facebow transfer in detail so as to help students to understand this enigma of Prosthodontics.
