Synopsis "Detroit and Elsewhere in the Universe: An Autobiography and Homage to Detroit"

A Description of Detroit and Elsewhere in the Universe: An Autobiography and Homage to Detroit. My life was different from yours. How is yours different from mine ? (I recommend that you write it all down; it's fun, perhaps even therapeutic.) Are you interested in my life ? I'm a regular person just like you. Aren't you curious about the life and thoughts of your neighbor, not a famous person, a pretty regular Joe(Josephine) ? A recounting of my adventurous life in Michigan, Arizona, Taiwan, and Hawaii touches on discrimination, immigration, class, divorce, recovery from a broken home, multiculturalism, the American Dream, the death of loved ones, global problems, friendships, the magic of art, culture shock and adjustment I am seventy-five years old now-I believe I am soon coming to the end of my life. My book, nearly eight decades of thoughts and impressions, shares memories from my childhood times in Michigan (both good and bad), through the saving of my life by a move to Taiwan, to my present home in Arizona, seeing our daughter complete a degree in industrial engineering and be employed by a good company, my years as a painter and the knowledge of the magic of art-what a trip! I love it very much. The book will probably be most appreciated by those who have lived through these decades of war, social conflict, the issues raised by liberalism and conservatism, the expansion of civil rights, economic ups and downs, all the fads in psychology, sociology, and education. Certainly, it can be enjoyed by younger men and women who share some of these experiences. Will there be life lessons for you? Now reflected upon, I see this life as an existential experience, probably not dominated by theory, political, sociological, or religious constructs, of course, without really knowing what lies in a subconscious informed by education, reading, experience, and all else that has contributed. I feel bad about the decline of Detroit. It used to be a prosperous and vibrant industrial powerhouse. My relatives all played a part in the industrial life of Detroit, a city with a fascinating history which I cover briefly from a personal and an academic perspective. From past years, I have recollected some stories, notes, nicknames, sayings, comments, epithets, jokes, which are sometimes crude, ribald, sometimes poignant, but mostly humorous, that are memorable to me.
