November 1820 im rheinländischen Barmen bei Wuppertal geborene Friedrich Engels machte in revolutionär demokratischen Kreisen Epoche zunächst auf dem Gebiet der Theorie. Durch eine kleine ökonomische Schrift, die den Titel trug: "Umrisse zu einer Kritik der Nationalökonomie" und die Anfang 1844 in den "Deutsch Französischen Jahrbüchern" veröffentlicht wurde, in einer Zeitschrift, in der auch Marx Artikel publizieren lie . Zugleich legte er den Keim zu einer Revolution der Geschichtswissenschaft.
