Die Inzidenz des Typ-1-Diabetes mellitus (T1DM) hat weltweit rapide zugenommen, während die derzeitige Standardtherapie - die exogene Insulingabe - als nicht nachhaltig gilt und in hohem Ma e mit einer schlechten Blutzuckerkontrolle verbunden ist, die zu einem lebensbedrohlichen Zustand führen kann. Andererseits wurde vor kurzem eine zelluläre Therapie entwickelt, die entweder eine Inselzell- oder eine Stammzelltransplantation umfasst, so dass ein Vergleich der Wirksamkeit der beiden alternativen Behandlungen angebracht ist. Ziel dieser systematischen Übersichtsarbeit ist es, die Sicherheit und Wirksamkeit der Inselzelltransplantation und der Stammzelltransplantation im Hinblick auf künftige Praxisänderungen zu vergleichen.
