Although little Gerry was a handful Phillip disagreed with Poppy's decision to put him into care, and without her knowing he has been visiting the boy regularly. Overall he is dissatisfied with the way things are going with the London family, and when he feels he has been humiliated in front of the men on the firm, he decides to walk away. He heads for Hastings where little Gerry is now living, and within a short time he has adopted him, and settled with the social worker who made it possible.
