Synopsis "Fletcherism, What it is"
Horace Fletcher, an American health-food advocate of the Victorian era, earned the nickname The Great Masticator through his advocation that food needed to be chewed thirty-two times before being swallowed. At the age of 58, he conducted a series of strength and endurance experiments at the Yale Gymnasium versus college athletes which claimed that Fletcher could outperform these athletes. Fletcher also had a great interest in human excreta, believing that it evidenced one's true nutrition. He also advocated for a low-protein diet as a means of health and well-being. Through this 1913 volume Fletcher explains his theories of health and well-being and how, you too, can become a Fletcherite.
