Synopsis "From Sinai Came Torah: Essays on the Festivals"
Following a stint in the army as the Jewish chaplain at Fort Benning, Georgia in the early 1970's, Rabbi Ronald Gross assumed the position of rabbi of Congregation Sinai-Torath Chaim in Hillside, New Jersey. Throughout the turbulent 70's, Rabbi Gross inspired his congregation and strengthened their connection to Yiddishkeit. The sermons contained in this volume, covering the cycle of the Jewish year, have been culled from the derashos which Rabbi Gross delivered at Sinai Congregation. Although presented several decades ago, these essays contain timeless lessons. Some of the topics touched upon in this book include perspectives on the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel. Discussions of the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and Entebbe are presented from the point of view of a pulpit rabbi living through those times. The heroism of leaders such as Menachem Begin and the bravery of the Russian Refuseniks are presented through a Torah perspective. Rabbi Gross also presents fitting tributes to some of the role models of his life, including Mr. Moshe Gross, Rabbi Yehoshua Fink, Mrs. Frumie Fink, Rabbi Hyman Tuchman, and Rabbi Heshy Genauer, all of blessed memory.
