His tribe wiped out and village burned to ashes, he narrowly escapes the Cavalry's murderous raid to an open, barren landscape unfamiliar to him. An inscribed pocket watch given to the boy by his Cherokee father, taken from the body of his white mothers' husband, gives him the white name of Griffith Bowman.
