In writing these chapters over the years, in telling us how she felt and what she thought, what she did and what others did, Lorene Bronner opened the door for the reader to really know her. One cannot look into another's life so deeply without coming to care for them and admire their spirit.What Lorene gives us in this book is a picture of what life was like in her early years in the rural South, through her teen years in the urban North. We look at culture and family through her eyes as she grows up. We're there with her as she faces serious life challenges and as she enjoys travels, places and people. Most of all we see how her reliance on faith caused her to grow through many tests of her spirit.Several months ago I was asked to edit and design Lorene's book and I gladly agreed. An editor gives attention to every story and every word and communicates with the author. After quite a few back-and-forth exchanges we reached the day when the final proof could be shipped. At that same time, Lorene's youngest daughter Sonja, who was far away from home, experienced a health crisis. There followed an excruciating few weeks where her sisters flew to her side, trying to save her life and bring her home. The time came instead for God to call Sonja to her heavenly home.The stories of life so truthfully told in this book are in the past and Lorene now faces a new time of challenges, one that God has chosen. I'm confident that in the days ahead she will continue to grow in faith as she has always done. Lorene has decided to publish her book in honor of her daughter, knowing that Sonja was very excited to see it completed. With love it is published in honor of Sonja Jean Bronner.
