Gus, an eastern black bear, roamed the length and breadth of the Berkshires enjoying the pleasures of life in the forest. The tallest peak in the state, Mount Greylock, was one of his favorite hangouts and, by chance, he developed a warm friendship with a local resident - a bald eagle named Bart. One fateful summer day, Gus found himself in the grips of a deadly crisis. His life was spared only by Bartholomew's intervention. But in order to save his friend, the eagle was forced to reluctantly reveal his deepest secret, the knowledge of which changed Gus's life forever. As the relationship between the eagle and the bear deepened, Gus found himself in the world of witches and wizards - the world of magic. His cordial welcome at Ilvermorney, the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry shrouded in the mists of Mount Greylock's summit, opened a new world of opportunities for Gus, allowing the big bear to become all he ever hoped to be and more.
