Synopsis "Gypsy Woman"
In the spirit of Lord of the Flies, what happens to inner-city boys who grow up without positive male role models and what is the impact on male-female relationships? Savagery becomes the norm and self-preservation is the priority. And yet, various life experiences can turn the tide as one seeks purpose in their life. Because the struggle between nature and nurture is progressive and evolutionary over the span of a life time, there is always room for redemption. Gypsy Woman is a coming of age story of Maximus Talisman and his crew growing up in Brooklyn, NY. We begin with Maximus and crew as teenage boys standing outside drinking beer, singing the misogynistic song which is the title of the book. We go on to learn about each member of the crew, Bosida, Khahari, Darwin, and Adisa and their life experiences which led to ongoing struggles in their romantic lives with women. We read about Maximus' journey last which extends throughout the book. The reader journeys with Maximus as he seeks purpose and a way to make sense of the tragedies that have befallen him in a way that as an adult, he can help children side step his misfortunes. In this he finds his verse to contribute to the well-being of humanity. Main plot points include - When Maximus decides to go from being prey to predator while struggling to maintain some semblance of a moral compass. Themes include man vs. self - man vs. man - man vs. society. Setting = Inner-City - Brooklyn, NY and moves throughout the east coast, mainly, from New Hampshire to Florida with a visit to the mid-west. The over-arching mood is dark and tragic as characters attempt to find ways to laugh in order to keep from crying.
