Haakon Lie, Denis Healey and the Making of an Anglo-Norwegian Special Relationship 1945-1951
Tony Insall
Synopsis "Haakon Lie, Denis Healey and the Making of an Anglo-Norwegian Special Relationship 1945-1951"
This book analyzes the remarkably close relationship between the British and Norwegian Labour parties and two of their leaders - Haakon Lie and Denis Healey - during the immediate post-World War II period. It examines the extent of party co-operation in disseminating anti-communist propaganda produced by the Information Research Department (IRD) of the Foreign Office in London. The book also looks at the history of the IRD, the extent of co-operation aimed at rebuilding the Socialist International, and attempts at party collaboration over Spain. It is largely based on unpublished material from over 10 different archives in Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, and Russia, incorporating material released at the request of the author under the Freedom of Information Act in Britain.
