Synopsis "High Voltage Engineering: Laboratory Manual"
In AC transmission, low voltages are below 11 KV and medium voltages are in the range of 22 KV to 66 KV. The voltages 132 KV, 169KV, 220 KV and 275 KV are termed as High voltages. Above 132 KV to 750KV are Extra High Voltages (EHV). Above 750 KV voltages are called as Ultra High Voltage (UHV). The application like electron microscope and X -ray unit required high voltage of order of 100 KV or more. Electrostatic precipitators, particles accelerator in nuclear physics, etc. require high voltage dc of KV. High voltage of one million voltage or even more required for testing power apparatus rated EHV (400 KV system and above). High impulse voltages are required for testing purpose to stimulate overvoltage that occurs in power system due to lightning or switching action. This laboratory manual is useful for undergraduate & postgraduate students of Electrical Engineering to perform experiments to determine the parameters, effect & measurements etc. related to high voltage engineering.
