"The history of the West abounds with memorable and thrilling incidents. The early discovery and settlement of the country by the French, and their subsequent struggle to retain an occupancy of it, forms a period of the most interesting character. The warfare with the savages, long, bloody and unremitting, furnishes a series of incidents but little less engrossing." With this preface, the author puts to paper some of the little known, and little told tales of the conflict of Nations in the Ohio territory. Tales of massacres, military campaigns, heroism and cowardice; Simon Girty, Generals Braddock and Washington, and a whole host of the famous and infamous that made the history of this era. Written in 1843, in the prose of that time, the author, even at that late date was able to talk to some of the actual participants in the events and share their tales with his readers.
