Synopsis "How I became an Attaway"

How I became an Attaway is the culmination of a twenty-nine-year quest and genealogical journey of detective work conducted by Craig Anthony Attaway. Through his painstaking research of government Census Records, Tax Records, Voter Registration Lists, Draft Registration Cards, Slave Schedules, Death Certificates, Birth Certificates, Public School Records that read "FOR NEGRO SCHOLASTICS ONLY," Obituaries and Marriage Licenses, a countless number of hours logged in libraries and courthouses and great personal expense, Attaway has compiled an irrefutable documentary record of his family's occupation in North America. Attaway also has irrefutable evidence of shared DNA with the Ewe peoples livingalong the West African Atlantic Coastline in present-day Ghana, Togo, Benin, and the Southwestern corner of Nigeria. With all that it included, from that day to this day, Attaway's family has endured. To the great multitude of individuals who contributed to his creation and well-being, Attaway offers an unpayable debt of gratitude and homage to all who came before him, both the named and the un-named. And for those who may be born long after my demise, this was for you.About the AuthorAuthor Craig Anthony Attaway was born and raised in Jacksonville, Texas, to the parentage of Mr. Billy Ray and Mrs. Joyce Ann Spencer Attaway on January 28, 1968. The pursuit of Genealogy and the study of African-American history are his particular interests. Craig began seeking answers to his family's historical questions in approximately 1991. Through old- fashioned genealogical research coupled with the most recent advances in DNA science, most of those questions have been answered. Craig and his wife Yolanda were married in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 4, 1996. Together they raised their two sons. Craig and Yolanda have resided in Waco, Texas, for more than two decades.
