Synopsis "how long will you limp?: (because god is tried of the bull) sermons for pentecost i: first lesson texts for cycle c"

Sometimes we limp between doubt and certainty between assurance and confusion, between realism and surrealism in our spiritual journey... The prophetic task is to cut through the machinations, doubts, and deception created by spiritual ambiguity. The experiences of Elijah, Elisha, and Amos shared in this book of sermons are lessons for the people of God and the church today. -- from the Preface Stewart's messages focus on the prophetic dimension of preaching: calling the people back to God, calling them to personal and social transformation, and exhorting them to human wholeness. Contents include: When Wisdom Cries Out -- Proverbs 8 They Didn't Have To But They Did -- Genesis 14 Extreme Measures -- 1 Kings 21 You Can Run But You Can't Hide -- 1 Kings 19 What Money Can't Buy -- 11 Kings 5 A Conflict Of Authority -- Amos 7 Dr. Carlyle Stewart III, PH.D., is a writer, teacher, preacher, and lecturer. He has written seven books and published more than fifty articles. He has lectured at Loyola University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Harvard Divinity School, and Xavier University, and has preached throughout the Midwest. He has received numerous awards and honors, including research fellowships at Yale University and Harvard University, a Fulbright Fellowship and a Rockefeller Fellowship and many Church Growth awards. Dr. Stewart has written several plays and musical compositions. He is currently pastor of Hope United Methodist Church in Southfield, Michigan. His ministry includes a weekly radio broadcast, a television ministry, leadership training, and spiritual enrichment programs for youths and adults.
