Synopsis "I Can't Wait 'till I'm Grown!: A Diary"

Louise Walker tells her story in two phases. The first phase is Louise's desire to be fast-tracked into adulthood because she thinks life will be so much better. But, before Louise becomes a woman, she learns a few things about intimacy and betrayal. She's a smart-mouthed, back-talking child whose life seems to be no different from the other kids in the neighborhood. She knows she has talent, good looks, and personality, but she finds herself grasping for a place in life that will give her happiness, love and peace, only to find turmoil and tears. I Can't Wait 'till I'm Grown! is an account of Louise's young life as she introduces you to friends and family. Ronnie, Louise's brother, proves to be her biggest pain in the butt, while her older sister, Amber, protects her from the perverts that try to enter their young lives. Her mother, Lynn, struggles to raise six children and teach them right from wrong, while also encouraging them to strive for the best. But, Louise is hell-bent on running her life her way, including going against her mother who forbids teenage sex. As a child, Louise never considered herself a fighter, but now in the "adult hood", she finds herself in combat against any man or woman who dares to cross her. Now, she wonders why adulthood seemed so appealing. Her grownup responsibilities and uninvited stress cause her to spiral out of control and she is forced to seek help for depression. Unfortunately, she continues to struggle on an emotional roller coaster for ten more years, so she reluctantly visits a psychiatrist and some of the answers begin to trickle to the surface. The second phase of Louise's story gives clarity as to how bipolar disorder can remain hidden for 50 years. Once Louise begins to accept and understand her circumstances, she tries to grasp the life she felt she's always deserved, before it's too late.
